GSTN (Goods and Services Tax Network) is a non-profit entity.The main aim for establishing GSTN is to provide IT(Information technology) infrastructure for the implementation of the GST(Goods and Services Tax) law.when GSTN opened it's portal for taxpayers to register it faced a DDOS(Distributed Denial of Service) Attack.


GST
GST(Goods and Services Tax) is an indirect tax throughout India amalgamating several Central and State taxes into a single tax.The simplicity of the tax would lead to easier administration and enforcement for the consumer the biggest advantages is reduction in the overall tax burden on goods and the free movement of the goods from one state to the other.

 What GSTN do? 
 GSTN is implemented to build a Indirect taxation platform for GST to help the taxpayers prepare, file, rectify returns and make payments of their indirect tax liabilities.Unlike current indirect tax their are numbers of site backed by provisions and compliances which creates problems for the government to keep track of the status of return and payments.With the implementation of the GSTN it becomes easier to do so.

Threat to GSTN
 As GSTN opened it's portal for the taxpayers to register the system faced a DDOS attack which was coming from countries like pakistan and china to swarm the system and bring it down in this type of attack many system which are infected by Trojans sends request at the same time to the victim.The victim cannot handel the incoming traffic that results in flooding of the victim.
 
Another attack the system faced was the CSRF(Cross-site request forgery) it is a attack in which a malware creates a Trojan, which can execute unwanted actions from the user’s end.But the system network did not respond to specific queries.As the CEO said that the GSTN does not run on the microsoft server instead it runs on the linux based server due to which the network is immune to such kind of attacks.



 Ways to secure GST Network
  • The Network uses linux based server.Hence it is safe from attacks like"Wannacry" because it was mainly for window based operating system.
  •  Network must use a Firewall to filter the incoming request.
  • Keeping the data in encrypted form can save them from hackers as the encrypted data will have no meaning to the hackers.
  • Using the Captcha for login. 
  •  The post parameter method.This method hides all the parameters in the URL when going to the webserver for processing the request made by the user.
